Formosa Generations Family Chamber Music is a non-profit organization, formerly named Scripps Ranch Family Chamber Music and Children’s Choir, founded in 2018 by music loving Taiwanese families living in San Diego, California. We were brought together by a common passion for musical upbringing and Taiwan culture sharing for the next generation. We deeply believe in the power of music to inspire and comfort, and brought our children to share melodies with those in need.
Formosa Generations Family Chamber Music has contributed to various communities and participated in numerous events, ranging from performing Christmas carols to spread holiday cheer in a senior living community, sharing poignant Taiwanese tunes to celebrate Mother’s Day in the Taiwanese American Community Center of San Diego, to supporting a fundraising carnival for an orphanage in Kenya. In 2019, the group started a year-long commitment to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego, bringing music’s power of healing and comfort to young patients and their families at the Rady Children’s Hospital every month. In 2020, we promoted outdoor community concerts to bring some joy and human connection to our pandemic-weary neighbors. In 2022, we performed at Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego fundraising event, the Summer Community event “Top Gun Anthem” in Scripps Ranch which also included shooting a music video. We also performed at programs for the Chuan Lyu foundation at UCSD for Taiwan Studies Center.
Keenly aware of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage, we strive to utilize music as a channel to pass on Taiwan culture to our next generation and those around us. In addition to performing with our children the pleasing popular music and timeless classical pieces, we committed to incorporate traditional Taiwanese folk-tunes and exciting new works from talented young Taiwanese composers into our repertoire to share with our new hometown. In 2021, the group officially changed our name to Formosa Generations Family Chamber Music to reflect our passion and mission. May these seeds of music and culture from the beautiful island Formosa bloom into gorgeous flowers in their new home country.
